Windows 8 offers the best of touch-screen tablet and PC functionality

While consumer tablets such as the iPad and the Galaxy Tab are terrific devices, they are best used for consuming media but not really getting real work done, even if you have the option to expand the device with an accessory keyboard.The ElitePad 900 is designed for business, with enterprise-class security and data management that meets the needs of every businesses.It runs on a full-fledged Windows 8 (not the 'lite' Windows RT version that runs on Microsoft Surface), and if you haven't really heard by now, Windows 8 offers the best of touch-screen tablet and PC functionality, with its new live tile UI (tablet mode) and the familiar desktop UI (PC mode).
This tablet uses the next-generation Intel's Clovertrail Atom processor, an x86 compatible CPU that can run the full Windows 8, and has 2GB of onboard memory, up to a 64GB solid-state hard drive, an Intel integrated graphics, a microSD card reader, an 8-megapixel rear camera and a front-facing camera capable of taking 1080p video.The ElitePad 900 has a premium look much like its high-end EliteBook laptops, marked by a machined aluminium back cover and a 10.1-inch Gorilla Glass-coated display. It also meets the military's MIL-spec 810G durability requirements, meaning that it can withstand drops of up to three feet. Despite its tough armour, the tablet weighs only about 1.5 pounds and comes in at just 9.2 millimetres thick.
But this tablet doesn't just end there. HP has mapped out an ecosystem of business-focused accessories to make it even more versatile, including two "Jackets" that add a few extra connectivity options.The ElitePad Smart Jacket which I've tested has two USB ports, HDMI output, a memory card slot and extra room for optional battery that adds an extra eight hours. The ElitePad Productivity Jacket has a built-in keyboard that plugs directly into the tablet.There's also an ElitePad Docking Station that provides up to four USB ports, HDMI and VGA out ports, and an Ethernet port. When connected to a full-sized keyboard and mouse, the tablet can transform into a little desktop powerhouse, eliminating the need to use multiple devices for any tasks.
And what's an enterprise-grade tablet without a stylus? HP also offers a Tablet Pen for those moments when you need to 'write' or 'sketch' on the device.This is an interesting product coming out of HP which they hope to push them to their corporate customers who are ready to migrate to new systems and workstations. And because this is a business-centric tablet tailored for security, productivity and business network compatibility, employers will be happy to have their employees use these machines for work.
